» Professional Diploma in Financial & Stock Market Trading

International University of Professional Studies (IUPS) in collaboration with Kenya Association of Stock Brokers and Investment Banks (KASIB) has launched a Professional Diploma Course in Financial & Stock Market Trading. The goal of the program is to provide a solid understanding on Financial Markets with a greater focus on Stock Trading. Some of the topics to be covered include:

  • Trading stocks and bonds
  • Stock Picking Strategies
  • Code of Ethics and Professional Standards
  • Trading Psychology
  • Trading technology at NSE (Nairobi Stock Exchange)
  • Developing and Managing a balanced investment portfolio
  • East African and Global Stock Markets

Target group

This program has been designed to meet the needs of:

  • Individuals preparing for a career in Financial Market or seeking to learn about the Financial Market
  • Other professionals who interact with the Financial Market – Media, Researchers, ICT,Lawyers

Program Objectives:-

  • To give the participant an understanding of Financial Markets, especially the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) and the technology, procedures of trading and code of professional conduct
  • To qualify the participant to thoroughly analyze the financial market environment and produce conclusions as a basis for investment decisions
  • To develop the participant’s competence and the attitude needed to conduct effective business in the financial market
  • To provide a platform for further career development for dealers, agents and financial market analysts

The Professional Diploma program is divided into 3 levels:

  1. Module 1: Professional Certificate in Financial & Stock Market Trading
  2. Module 2: Professional Diploma I in Financial & Stock Market Trading
  3. Module 3: Professional Diploma II in Financial & Stock Market Trading

The learning on all levels will focus on applied learning and real life exercises with assessments on every level.

The Professional Certificate level provides a background on trading, how it is conducted as well as best practices. This concludes with a visit to the Nairobi Stock Exchange.

The Professional Diploma I level provides hands-on training in trading through a trading simulation and an internship with KASIB members. It also explores various analyses to be carried out in order to make a trading decision in terms of economy, various companies and industries as well as market trends.

The Professional Diploma II level will provide the participant with an understanding on trading on an international level as well as provide the main keys to success in trading through Trading Psychology and Portfolio management. This level will also include a trading simulation to solidify the knowledge gained in the entire program.

Admission Requirements:

  • KCSE/ O-Level Certificate
  • Computer literacy

Applicants without previous Business Education background or experience may need to take a basics course in business.

Experienced traders may be exempted from the certificate level depending on the level of experience.

Applicants with business degrees may also qualify for exemptions on the certificate level

Duration

The entire Professional Diploma will take 18 months, 6 months per levelwith classes offered in the Evening and weekend(just 9 hours per week!) at International University of Professional Studies, Inoorero Centre, Parklands.

» Bachelor of Commerce

The goal of this program is to produce highly qualified and competent professionals with requisite skills and values to serve the needs of both industrial concerns and small and medium enterprises. It aims first, to develop a theoretical and technical understanding of Accounting, Finance, Marketing and Human Resource Management concepts and practices among its students. Secondly, to enhance self confidence and the ability to critically evaluate business and management issues and develop solutions from ethical, professional as well as academic perspectives. Thirdly, to instill a critical and integrated understanding of the world of business, with a firm grounding on ICT and e-commerce as driving forces of 21st Century business enterprises.

The course is designed to run for eight trimesters (full-time learning) and nine trimesters (part-time learning) with an attachment component integrated within the curriculum to provide learners with more practical experience of the discipline.

Target group

Form four school leavers and graduates from recognised universities.

Course Objectives:-

It aims at producing graduates with practical skills and understanding of managerial requirements. It instills theoretical and technical understanding of Accounting, Finance, Banking, Human Resources Management and Marketing Concepts and practices.

Admission Requirements:

  • KCSE with a minimum aggregate of C+ with C in English and Mathematics Or
  • KACE Certificate with a minimum of two principal passes and one Subsidiary pass, and a minimum credit pass in Mathematics at KCE Or
  • Holder of KSPS Diploma in Management with a credit pass Or
  • Holder of KNEC Diploma in Business Management with a pass Or
  • Holder of ABE Advanced Diploma in Business Management with a pass Or
  • Holder of CPA (K), CPS (K), & ACCA
  • Holder of an accredited Diploma in Management with a pass that is recognized by the University Senate Or,
  • Any other qualification accepted by the University Senate as equivalent to any of the above.

Credit Transfers

Holders of recognized diplomas qualify for credit transfers e.g. BA KNEC / Business Management KNEC, KIM Diploma , Public & Private Universities diplomas, ABE Qualifications, Other accredited diplomas by Commission for Higher Education

The total number of credits/exemptions to be awarded is dependent on the scope of the various curriculums. Credits/exemptions are awarded on merit basis. Applicants will be expected to apply for exemptions/ credit transfers on admission by completing a credit transfers/exemptions form.

Duration : 3 years

Mode of study: Full-time (day) and part-time (evening) mode

Intake : January, May, September

» Bachelor of Procurement

Bachelor of procurement course is developed to provide a theoretical and technical understanding of issues and approaches in procurement, evaluate procurement issues and develop solutions from the ethical, professional as well as academic perspectives as well as integrate areas such as economics, ethics, e - commerce, organizational behaviour and procurement law to demonstrate a better understanding of business.

The course is designed to run for eight trimesters (full-time learning) and nine trimesters (part-time learning) with an attachment component integrated within the curriculum to provide learners with more practical experience of the discipline.

Target group

Form four school leavers and graduates from recognised universities.

The world is now a global village and this has necessitated the role of procurement personnel to be reviewed. Electronic commerce including online procurement is now a reality. Procurement professionals are therefore required to have the requisite training to manage this new development. IUPS’s Diploma in Procurement (DIP) has been developed with the above consideration in mind. Increased competition in the global arena demands that all businesses processes including procurement match international standards.

Admission Requirements:

  • KCSE mean grade C+ (plus) with a minimum of C in English and Mathematics
  • KACE certificate with a minimum of two principal passes and a subsidiary pass; and minimum of credit pass in Mathematics in KCE
  • Holders KNEC Diploma in Purchasing and Supplies Management; or Diploma in Procurement; or Diploma Business Management with a pass
  • CIPS & KIPS Diploma in Purchasing and Supplies Management with a pass
  • Holders of CPA (K), CPS(K)
  • Holders of Accredited Diploma in Business Management with a pass that is recognized by The University Senate
  • Any other equivalent academic qualification accepted by the University Senate

Exemptions and Credit transfers

Holders of recognized Diplomas qualify for exemptions/credit transfers into our Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Procurement degree programs. This means that our learners complete their programs within shorter duration

» Bachelor of Management and Office Administration

This programme is aimed at training Office administrators and managers for the industry as well as the non-profit making and international organizations. It aims at improving the quality of Office administration and management training to ensure that office managers are able to competently accomplish routine office tasks and at the same time be effective assistants to the executives and eventually take up executive roles. This is in response to the changing face of the office manager where she/he is expected to take an office management role in the organization.

Management and Office administration skills and knowledge are at the heart of business development in both public and private sectors of any economy, whether in developed or developing worlds. The office is the central nerve of an organization and should be trained professionally. Office administrators and managers are the backbone of economic development; they are the organizers, the caretakers and the overall in-charge of the business and office functions in organizations.

Objectives:-

By the end of the programme, the learners should be able to:

  • Apply the practical education and skills which are responsive and relevant to modern business practice.
  • Respond to the technological developments of the workplace in a competitive business world.
  • Make appropriate decisions in business and office administration.
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently for improved business and office operations.

Admission Requirements:

  • KCSE: overall grade C + (plus) or equivalent and a minimum of B in English or its equivalent.
  • A – Level: minimum of two principal passes or its equivalent and a minimum of a credit pass in English at KCE or equivalent.
  • Diploma Holders: Candidates with a credit pass in Secretarial or Management related Diplomas from recognized Institutions acceptable to the University Senate.
  • KSPS/ IUPS Diploma In Business And Office Management
  • Any other equivalent qualification recognized by the university senate

Exemptions and Credit Transfers

Holders of diploma qualifications recognized by the university senate are eligible for exemptions.

The programme is ideal for practicing and aspiring office managers, personal and executive assistants, administrators and secretaries who wish to upgrade their qualifications.

The aim of this program is to produce graduates with practical skills and understanding of managerial requirements. Graduates learn theoretical and technical understanding of Accounting, Finance, Banking, Human Resource Management, and Marketing concepts and practices.

Form four school leavers and graduates from recognised universities.

The Bachelor of Business and Office Management Degree course is a broad based programme that is intended to provide candidates with the necessary managerial orientation in the business world. It is designed to develop all round Business and Office Managers who have sound knowledge of the activities involved in the business world. These will be from a wide selection of topics in related disciplines which will give candidates excellent business and office management skills, the ability to make sound business decisions. The degree is intended to provide students with business, ethical and technological skills required by Business and Office Management and at the same time meet the quality requirements of the university. It will be modular in nature and will allow for credit transfer, where necessary, in order to give flexibility to meet the needs of the market.

Target group

Secondary school leavers who have attained the minimum qualifications for university admission and who wish to start a career in Business and Office Management. The programme is also open to persons in employment who possess relevant qualifications.

Objectives

  • To develop Business and Office Managers who have the necessary theoretical and technical understanding of the business world.
  • To prepare students to take up challenging work in business and office environments by developing a firm foundation in areas covered by the programme.
  • To provide students with foundational understanding of the business executive’s work through comprehensive attachment programmes and management research projects.
  • To prepare students for post graduate work and research in office management and related business areas.
  • To develop office managers who are capable of effectively assisting executives and relieving them of routine work so that they can concentrate on strategic decision making.

Admission Requirements:

  • KCSE aggregate of C+ with C in Mathematics and English
  • KACE Certificate with a minimum of Two (2) Principal passes and a minimum of Credit pass in Mathematics and English/Kiswahili at KCSE.
  • Candidates with a recognized Diploma in management or Secretarial Studies.
  • Be a holder of any other qualifications accepted by the University Senate.

Recognition of prior learning

Holders of the following Diploma Qualifications are eligible for entry into this programme and may be considered for certain exemptions:

  • IUPS Diploma in Business and Office Management
  • KTTC Technical Diploma in Education (Secretarial option); or
  • Kenya Naional Examination Council BTEP Diploma in Secretarial Studies; or
  • KIM Diploma in Business Management with single and Group Certificates in Secretarial Studies from KNEC or City & Guilds.

Exemptions and credit transfers

Holders of diploma qualifications recognized by the university senate are eligible for exemptions.

Duration : 3 years including internship

Examinations : All examinations are administered by Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

The programme is ideal for practicing and aspiring office managers, personal and executive assistants, administrators and secretaries who wish to upgrade their qualifications.
